After visiting Bulgaria, I took the opportunity to visit Macedonia. I didn't plan it or search about the country and the only thing I knew about it is that it's one of the poorest countries in Europe ... To be honest, when I arrived, I got a big surprise...
Alexander the Great
skopje, macedonia
If you ever visit Skopje one day, for sure you will notice this imponent statue of Alexander the Great.
There is a huge dispute between Greece and Macedonia FYROM about this piece of history and land, but it seems that Macedonia FYROM really wants to be clear about this topic.
I can tell you that this statue is so imponent that every day I walk past it I took a picture of it.
Random Box
with a random curiosity 🐎
If you notice, in every capital city that you visit there is at least one statue of a guy riding a horse, right?
And there is a meaning behind the horse's position...
- A horse with both legs in the air is said to represent a rider who died on the battlefield, during a war.
- A horse statue with one leg raised is associated with a rider who was injured but did not die in battle.
- A horse with all four feet on the ground is said to represent a rider that was neither killed nor injured in battle but who died away from the battlefield of something unrelated to war or battle.

I worked in a hostel
skopje, macedonia
After coming back from Kosovo, I saw a note in the hostel looking for someone to work there. So the next day I had breakfast with Oli, the hostel owner, and asked him about that opportunity.
The next day, I started working there and it was a really cool experience with random situations...
The hostel is called Unity Hostel and it had 8.9 Hostel World reviews.
I worked there for a couple of days in exchange for a free room and breakfast...
The guy on the left is Oli, great guy! If you ever visit this hostel, just talk with Oli and he will tell you a funny story about me 🙂
This guy teached me korean and the next day he vanished
skopje, macedonia
When I was working at the hostel, I met this South Korean guy that was very funny.
He speaks several languages, even Portuguese... one night he taught me some South Korean words and expressions like "Thank you", "How much", "I love you" and so on. One of the expressions was "Good morning" and it was the only expression I was able to keep in mind... Next day I woke up and thought -"Ok, when I see the South Korean man, I will tell you "Good morning" in Korean to see his reaction"... but it never happened because he just disappeared without telling anyone.
During the same night he showed his skills of playing harmonica with no hands (video below).
Wherever this guy is, I believe it's still impossible to be bored around him.

Ot this day I was walking around when I heardsome Portuguese words... I approached the guys and then, like typical Portuguese students traveling the world, we went to a cheap restaurant to have a meal and share some experiences.
The guy on the left side of the image is a crazy cool guy... I discovered that we have a lot of friends in common that he met randomly like me.
At the time of writing, he is traveling alone around the world with a 125cc motorbike and sharing his experiences on his Instagram profile @ride_that_monkey.
Go there and take a look!
